Are donations to the Baltimore Tree Trust tax-deductible?
Yes, Baltimore Tree Trust is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation. Your donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
What does my donation to Baltimore Tree Trust go towards?
Unless otherwise designated, all donations are considered “Unrestricted Donations” and go to the general operating fund of Baltimore Tree Trust, which supports tree plantings, outreach, education, workforce development, and more.
Can I donate monthly?
Pledging a monthly gift allows you to manage your annual philanthropic giving better and provides a predictable and reliable funding stream for the Baltimore Tree Trust. You choose the amount you wish to give per month, and you can change or cancel your pledge at any via our donation form.
What is a donor-advised fund (DAF), and can I give it to the Baltimore Tree Trust through one?
Yes. A DAF is a charitable investment account for the purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about. When you contribute to one, you are generally eligible for an immediate tax deduction. Then, those funds can be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to any eligible IRS-qualified public charity.
What is an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) gift?
Starting at age 70½, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), a direct, tax-free transfer from your IRA to a qualified charity. If eligible, QCDs can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year, provided specific IRS rules are met.
What is a planned gift?
Planned gifts are contributions arranged in the present and allocated at a future date, often as part of a donor’s financial or estate planning. These gifts typically come from a donor’s will, trust, retirement account, life insurance policy, or other long-term assets. They can provide financial and tax benefits to the donor while making a lasting impact on the nonprofit’s mission. Common types of planned gifts include: Bequests (gifts made through a will), charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, IRA or retirement plan designations, and life insurance policy designations. Planned giving helps donors leave a legacy while supporting the nonprofit’s long-term sustainability.
Can I fundraise for the Baltimore Tree Trust?
The Baltimore Tree Trust’s online donation platform has a peer-to-peer fundraising tool. Please feel free to support our work and increase Baltimore’s tree canopy.

Can I give a tree as a gift to someone?
You can honor someone special or celebrate a momentous occasion by dedicating your donation in their name on our online donation form or in a letter explaining how you would like to honor the gift.
Can I donate a tree to the Baltimore Tree Trust?
We accept donated trees on a case-by-case basis to assess the species, health, and condition of each tree. Please fill out the form below to initiate the process.
