Who We Are

Our Impact

Building A Legacy of Urban Forestry

Baltimore Tree Trust is part of a citywide coalition of nonprofit organizations, city agencies, community groups, and individual residents working under Baltimore City”s Department of Recreation and Parks’ Tree Baltimore program. The goal is to bring Baltimore’s tree canopy cover—the part of a city shaded by trees—to 40 percent, the current research goal for healthy cities. Recent measures of Baltimore’s existing canopy cover are currently at 27.4 percent.

Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change

Guided by Maryland’s recent 5 million trees initiative, Baltimore Tree Trust is planting over 3,000 trees each year in Baltimore’s most underserved neighborhoods, helping to lower temperatures, enhance public health, and combat the negative effects of climate change for future generations.

Since our founding in 2008, BTT has planted over 21,000 trees. As these trees mature, their canopy is expected to:

  • Create 4.3MM square feet of tree cover
  • Stop 53MM gallons of stormwater runoff
  • Remove 20MM pounds of carbon
  • Save $816,000 in electricity costs

Since 2008, we have planted all across Baltimore, a city home to over 250 neighborhoods. As of July 2025, our impact is evident in the 193 neighborhoods we have planted, demonstrating our impact city-wide. Each planting season, we continuously strive to bridge the gap by bringing trees to areas with lower tree canopy—whether entering a new neighborhood or revisiting areas we have planted in the past!

Growing Roots, Building Futures

In 2024, Baltimore Tree Trust planted 3,592 trees across 84 neighborhoods and engaged over 3,000 Tree Stewards. But our work went beyond the numbers. From Cedonia to Cherry Hill, 2024 was a year of growth in every sense. Discover how your support helped us deepen our roots and reach new heights.
